In the year of his induction into the 1982 Massachusetts State hall of Fame, Amos Whitaker of Orange was in his 46th year of organized Horseshoe Pitching and still competing.

In the 1930's he was a member of the Orange Club.
In the 1940's he was a member of the outstanding Athol Club.
In 1953 he was Champion of Franklin County.
In 1957 he won Class C in the State Championship.
In 1958 he was third in Class "A" in the State Championship.
In 1959 he won the Championship of the Cheshire Fair for the third time. He played in the New England State Championship many times between 1958 and 1970.
In 1959 he finished third in Class "A" in the Eastern States Tournament.
In 1960 he finished third in Class "A" in the Brattleboro Tournament.
In 1960 he also won third place in the Connecticut Open.
In 1961 he took first place in the Plymouth New Hampshire fair and fifth in the New England.
In 1962 he won second place T.O.H.L.
In 1964 he finished in third place for Class "A" in Rockville.
In 1965 he took third place in Class B for the World Championship Warm-up in Manchester.
In 1965 he was the Twin County Champion.
In 1965 he took third place in Class "A" for the Western Massachusetts Championship.
In 1965 he also took third place in the Vermont Open.
In 1966 he finished third in the Massachusetts State Championship.
In 1977 he won first place in Class C in the Keene Open.
In 1978 he took first place in Class B in the State Championship.
In 1979 he was awarded the Massachusetts State Player of the Year Award.
In 1980 he took third in Class B in the State Championship.
In 1980 he also took third in Class B in the New England Championship.
In 1982 he finished first in Class C in the New England Championship.

Amos was always in there giving his best at all times and always a gentleman.
