started pitching in 1957 in tournaments and since 1961 has been one of
the best pitchers in New England. He won the Mass. State Championship
twice, finished second four times and third twice. In the New England he
was champion once and finished second twice and third once. He won the
Mass. Open, Keene Open, and Maine Open once and he has averaged over 70%
in 10 tournaments during this time. 1971 was his best year when he won
the Western Mass., and the Maine Open averaging 72% for 8 meets he
played that year.
His best average was 76.3% for seven games in the Western Mass. Meet that year. In 1973 Mel dropped of to about 60% for 5 tournaments and so far in 1974 his average is about the same. In 1975 Mel showed promise of being on his way back to the top averaging close to 65% for 4 tournaments.
