Kevin and his wife Sarah, lives in Shaftsbury, Vermont. They have 2 children, Emily and Bradley Hoyt; Kevin owns a small appliance store in Bennington. Enjoys hunting, fishing, and golfing.
Kevin pitches right hand and shoots with either "Deadeyes" or "Ohio Pros", using a 1 ¼ turn shoe.
Kevin is a member of the "Bennington Horseshoe Club" in Bennington. He has held several offices in the club, and help to lay out more addition of courts to host the New England's in 1992.
His accomplishments in the Vermont State Tournaments started in 1992 in the Junior Class A, wining his first state title with a record of 5 wins and 0 loss, averaging 51.9%. In 1973, Junior Class A, 4 and 0; averaging 73.5%. In 1974, (last year as a junior) record of 6 and 0 with a 74.7%. In 1975, (his first year playing in the Men's Class A) wining his first of Many State titles at the age of 17, in addition to being the youngest ever to win the Vermont State Title, with a record of 6 and 1: averaging 53.5%. He's been the Men's Class A State Champion in the years of 1975, 76, 78, 79, 80, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86, 87, 89, 90, 91, 94, and 1995. His highest state average was 78.0% in the years of 1986 and 1991. His win/loss record (minus the years 1985 and 1987 - no records are found, is an astonish 144 wins and 12 losses with a going average of 68.3%. The highest average ever for a tournament is 82.5%.
Kevin has played in numerous New England Tournaments starting in 1971 in the Junior Class A level, finishing in 3rd place in the 3 years of junior play in 1974; with a record of 2 and 3, averaging 70.0%. In 1977 (first year in the men's Class A) finished in 9th place out of 16 with a record of 7 and 8; averaging 71.0%. In 1983, Kevin became the second Vermonter (Fred Butler in 1960) to win the Class A New England Championship Title with a record of 6 and 1 - 78.0%. He would win the title again in 1984, 7 and 0; averaging 69.7%, and 1986; 6 and 1 with an average of 81.6% (highest percentage ever in a New England Tournament). In 1980, finished in 2nd place with a 13 and 2 - 76.8% (pitched 3 games above 90%).
In the National Pitcher, Kevin has attended several World Horseshoe Tournaments, Starting with his first WT in 1985: he finished 8th place in the Championship Men's Class, and his best finish being 3rd place in the Championship men's Class in 1987. He has always placed within the Championship Class at each WT. He also won the Oxford County Fair in 1979.
Kevin was awarded the Vermont Athlete of the Month by the Sportwriters/Sportcasters Association. In 1986, He was featured in the Sports Illustrated "Faces in the Crowd for his outstanding accomplishments.
The VT H.P.A. is honored and proud to have Kevin Hollister inducted into the Vermont Hall of Fame as an Organizer/Pitcher.
