Frank Lengyel began
his organized horseshoe-playing career in 1968. He has been a member of
the NHPA and VT HPA for 28 years. Frank lives in Springfield, Vermont. He was a member of the old "Springfield Horseshoe Club" at Springfield, Vermont and Frank initiated the formation of the club in 1969. He helped to clear out the brush for the courts that were to be installed at the time, and helped to install the fence and lights. Frank was the first President to be elected at the Springfield Club in 1969 and held that office until 1971, He helped to host the Vermont States, VT Open, Southern, and the New England's. Frank helped to promote horseshoes throughout the area and encouraged participation along with instruction. Frank, besides playing horseshoes, tried out on the pitching staff of the "Brooklyn Dodgers" in 1954. His accomplishments in the Vermont State Tournaments started in 1968, Class A, finishing with a 1 win and 6 losses. His first state title was in 1970, playing in Class B. Frank played in Class A in 1975-1982, and 1993. In 1976, his best finish was 2nd place with a 5 wins and 2 losses, averaging 50.9 (high game of 60.0%). In 1981, finishing in 3rd place, with a record of 3 and 2, averaging 47.6%. His best high game in the States was in 1980, shooting a 76.0%, and averaging a 56.7% for the tournament. Frank has also played in many New England Tournaments. His best was in 1982, Class BB, in a 3 way play-off for 1st, taking 2nd with a 5 and 2 record, averaging 55.5%. The VT HPA is very proud to have Frank Lengyel inducted into the Vermont Hall of Fame as an Organizer/Pitcher. |
