Jean Choiniere competed in her first NHPA sanction tournament in June 1982 winning the Northern Vermont. Later in Springfield, Vermont, the Vermont States in Women's Class B with a 7-0-39.1% taking 1st place. On September 13, 1982 in the September fest Tournament held in Enosburg, Vermont. She, along with Don (her husband) took 1st place in doubles.

Jean took up the sport as something she and Don could enjoy together, and they made St. Albans their home.

Jean is one of the Directors of the Franklin County Horseshoe Club in St Albans for many years. For 19 years, she has helped to run the Floyd Greene Tournament held on July 4th. She and Don have taken many first places throughout the years in that tournament.

She has traveled to Hudson Falls, NY at the Moreau Horseshoe Club, Canton Sportsman Club Grounds in Canton, NY, Altamont Fair in Altamont, NY, and the list of places keeps growing. She played in the Fletcher Field Days, Milton Fair Horseshoe Tournament, Fairfax Horseshoe Tournament, Enosburg Dairy Day Tournament, and Bakersfield Bash Horseshoe Tournament, placing 1st trough 3rd many times.

Jean has played in the Vermont States 11 times, from 1982 to 2002. She won the Women's State Title twice in 1985 and 1993, and was runner-up two times, third once. 1985, she earn her first title with a 4-2-57.1% High Game of 63.9% at Springfield, Vermont. In 1993, at Milton, with a 5-1-60.7% High Game of 63.8%. In second place in 1984 at Bennington, Vermont with a 4-1-53.5% and in 1987 at Milton, Vermont with a 4-2-55.3%. That same day she went to the Franklin Field Days and placed 1st in Singles. Third place in 1983 at the Sodbusters in Middlebury, Vermont with a 2-4-49.7% High Game 55.1%. Jean would have participated in more Vermont State Tournaments, but was helping to run the Franklin County Field Days Horseshoe Tournament.

She played in the Vermont State Doubles Tournament in 1991 at the Sodbusters with Ray Barker, taking 3rd place with a 3-2 record

She has played in the New England's Tournament, her first in 1986 at Keene, NH with a 2-5-55.9% HG of 66.7%. In 1988 at Keene in Women's B, 1st place with a 5-1-60.8% HG of 68.7%.

Her best tournament was in June 4, 1989 at the North Valley Tournament in Milton, with a 6-0-64.4% HG of 78.6%.

Jean has received several Vermont Most Improved Pitcher Awards.
